What is Bulletproof Coffee?

If you’re on the keto diet, you’ve definitely heard of bulletproof coffee, created by Dave Asprey. Basically, it’s coffee mixed with butter and MCT oil. Butter in coffee?! Yes and it’s absolutely delicious. There’s also many benefits to drinking this beverage, such as increased energy and weight loss.

Why MCT oil? MCT’s are medium-chain triglycerides, a form of saturated fatty acid that has numerous health benefits. MCT oil is a concentrated source of fat that creates energy, which almost instantly converts your body to using ketones. Which is exactly what we’re trying to accomplish on the keto diet.

Since my favorite kind of coffee is iced, my bulletproof coffee also has to be. Here’s the easiest way to make one for yourself.

Ingredients:

– 2 cups of brewed coffee, chilled

– 2 tablespoons ghee or grass-fed unsalted butter

– 1 tablespoon of MCT oil

Directions:

1. Brew your coffee as you normally would.

2. Add the coffee, oil and ghee to a blender and blend until it’s a bit frothy on top and the fats are nicely emulsified with the coffee.

3. Pour into a mason jar covered with a lid and let it chill in the freezer for an hour or two. *Note: It’s got to be chilled in the freezer, not refrigerator, or else your lovely fats will separate and you’ll have the worst coffee you’ve ever tasted! :)

4. When you’re ready for your pick-me-up, pour over ice and enjoy immediately!
