Learn how to make a homemade electrolyte drink of your own – no glow-in-the-dark color required.
During the hot days of summer or after you’ve had an intense workout, you’ll need to stay hydrated – especially with electrolytes (sodium, potassium and glucose.)
When you sweat, you’re losing electrolytes, which are vital for optimal hydration and body function. Without them, you may feel dizzy or faint.
If you’re on the keto diet, you should especially be aware of this.
Although they may seem healthy, drinks like Gatorade and Vitamin Water are not a whole lot more than bright neon, artificially flavored and dyed sugar water.
How do you make an electrolyte water at home?
Making your own homemade electrolyte drink at home is quick, naturally refreshing and a much healthier option – without all of the store-bought additives.
I actually got the idea to make my own while browsing these Keto In Five cookbooks.
These drinks are perfect to have right after a workout class or to have on hand while you’re battling a cold or flu.
You’ll want your homemade electrolyte sports drink to include water, sugar, salt and a source of potassium.
It’s a very simple formula, but will effectively replenish those lost electrolytes and keep hydration at an optimal level.
If you’re in a hurry, an even easier formula of just water with pink Himalayan salt will also do the trick!
Hi Lyte Electrolyte Concentrate
How can you add electrolytes to water?
Honey, pink Himalayan salt*, coconut water, lemons, oranges and limes are all rich in electrolytes and minerals.
Coconut water is often referred to as “Nature’s Gatorade”. On it’s own, it has more potassium than sports drinks (13x the amount!) and contains more natural sources of sodium.
*If you’re on a low-sodium diet or if you have high blood pressure, ALWAYS speak to your doctor first!
Your standard recipe should look like this: 2 cups of water, 1/2 cup of juice (lemon, lime, orange), 1 tablespoon of honey or agave, 1/2 teaspoon of pink Himalayan salt or sea salt.
The easiest way to mix up this homemade electrolyte water is to dump all the ingredients into a mason jar, pop the lid on tight and give it a good shake.
Most of us do not have time for tricky recipes, which is why I really love making these drinks.
If you’d like to make a larger batch, just double or triple the recipe and mix it up in a pitcher instead of a mason jar. Store in fridge for up to a week.
A few example electrolyte water recipes would look something like this:
My favorite: Lemon-Lime
Mix 1 cups of coconut water, 1 cup plain water, 1/4 cup juice of lemon AND lime, honey, sea salt.
Cherry
Mix 2 cups of coconut water, 1/2 cup of unsweetened cherry juice, honey, sea salt and a squeeze of lemon juice.
Orange crush
Mix 1 cup of coconut water, 1 cup of fresh orange juice, honey, sea salt.
Will you try it for yourself?

I’m not a professional, but I do know children 2 and under aren’t supposed to have honey so I’d avoid it to be safe.

These drink recipes sound amazing, Do you happen to know how many calories they have in each serving?
Caitlin says
How long will these keep in the fridge?
thedumbbelle says
Hi Caitlin! These aren’t meant to have a long shelf life, so I’d say 3-4 days.
