The weather is starting to dip below the 40’s and already my lips are feeling tight and becoming more and more dry. Luckily, I have a bunch of tips and remedies I use every winter to soothe and heal chapped lips.
♡ First things first, don’t lick your lips. Doing so will actually make them drier, making them worse off than they were before.
♡ Drink lots of water. Hydrating from the inside will help heal your lips.
♡ Gently exfoliate. To combat peeling or dry flaking, gently exfoliate with a yummy lip exfoliator or you can use a damp washcloth.
♡ Choose the right lip balm. …and apply it religiously. Look for hydrating ingredients, like shea butter, hyaluronic acid, Vitamin E.
♡ Ditch the citrus. If your lips are seriously chapped, take a pass on drinking orange juice, eating grapefruit, or putting any other citrus fruits near your lips. This can actually cause more dryness.
♡ Break out the oils. I use oils for various beauty treatments. Coconut oil is a wonderful natural remedy for chapped lips. Simply apply a small amount of oil to the lips a few times per day.
♡ Moisturize while you sleep. Lip balm or oil, moisturize your lips even before bed. This will allow the nourishing ingredients to soak in while you sleep and you’ll wake up with softer lips.
These steps will soothe and nourish even the most winter-abused lips.
